Membership 2025-2026
Community Membership
We are a volunteer run community, with the following features.
• Frequent field trips, & community meet-ups.
• Pods for community building (small groups based around an interest, location, or age group).
• First access to bigger events.
• Group trip.
• Optional HCU t-shirts
• Yearbook of the year with homeschool friends (book purchased separately).
• Graduation & Awards Ceremony
• $35 per family goes towards operational expenses, & insurance, and is part of registration. Operational expenses include our payment system so that coordinators don't have to use their personal payment accounts and incur taxes. Any costs to attend field trips, or events, are separate.
• Group size is intentionally limited for relationship building.
• The Homeschool Community of the Upstate is a group for social & educational opportunities, NOT an association to meet any of your legal requirements to homeschool in South Carolina. For more information on homeschooling in SC, go to How to Homeschool.
• Volunteering is a requirement for membership. We have no paid staff. You must select a volunteer role at registration. Additionally, please consider yourself a helpful part of any event you attend, regardless of whether you're on that event team, things like making sure we leave a place tidy, watching for safety issues...etc, in the spirit of a volunteer community.
• Community for the kids is our priority. We want moms to build relationships, but we know adult relationships can sometimes be harder to maintain. For the sake of the children getting to have community, please treat each other with respect & kindness. Refrain from gossip, speak to each other with gentleness, and resolve issues with maturity. Remember to practice forgiveness and grace, no person, relationship, or community, is perfect. Our goal is for the kids to have this community support up through their high school graduation.
• Membership comes with the expectation that your family is choosing to build community here, and not just taking spots on field trips from people who truly want to be part of relational community. Since there are so few groups of this type in the Upstate, we ask that you choose one only. This does NOT mean you can't be part of an academic co-op or pod. We are referring to groups that provide a good amount of social gatherings and events, where their goal is to be relational community. Being part of a multiple groups of that nature makes it hard to build relationships in either one (in much the same way that it would be hard to be a real part of two different churches), and it takes up spots in both groups, when other families are needing one.

Our theme this year is:
Time Travelers
That means many of our events, activities, the yearbook, etc., will be our portals in time to explore different points in history, science, etc. Though we will do plenty that is educational in other areas, this theming is part of the fun in this coming year.
