About the event

As "Aquatic Ecologists" students conduct field investigations to evaluate the health of an aquatic ecosystem by wading in and collecting animals in Mountain creek, measurine the abiotic factors of temperature and ph. and completing a model that describes the amazing movement of matter within this aquatic ecosystem. In the park lab (if time allows), the class will view their creek finds under the microscope, and use all their data to assess the health of the creek at Paris Mountain State Park. Program length: 2 hours

In addition to this program, students will go on a 1 1/2 hour hike around Lake Placid as 'Forest Ecologists,' investigating the many interdependent relationships amongst biotic and abiotic parts of a forest ecosystem, culminating with a one-square meter investigation.

Program was designed for 5nd grade, but students both a little younger, & a little younger, could still get a lot out of it.  Students for this trip must be in the 3rd-8th grade range, as requested by the rangers.

Moms  can bring babies that need them, but otherwise arrangements should be  made for younger kids, to keep the field trip area from being too packed for the ranger's comfort during the experience.  It's a really nice  park, so some of you that know each other well may just want to take the  littles to play for a bit.
