About the event

Travel back in time to the Carolina Backcountry and learn about life in the Colonies and the Revolution. Walnut Grove Plantation is the oldest home in Spartanburg County, built in 1765. On this trip, you will have a guided tour of the home and a fun living history activity.  Students will learn about toys and games of the colonial period and get to make their own to take home. This activity is recommended for preschool and up.  This lesson is geared more toward younger students, so best for preschool through probably 3rd grade, though older students have fun with it as well. After your tour and lesson, we will enjoy a picnic lunch.  Then, you are free to explore the grounds and the gift shop on your own. The grounds include the original well and dry cellar, as well as a nature trail and cemetary.
