About the event

Travel back in time to the Carolina Backcountry and learn about life in the Colonies and the Revolution. Walnut Grove Plantation is the oldest home in Spartanburg County, built in 1765. On this trip, you will have a guided tour of the home and a fun living history activity.  Students will learn about types of candles and get to make their own to take home. This activity is recommended for 2nd grade and up.  But if you think your younger student can participate with your guidance, that is up to you. The pot of wax will have been over an open fire, so it will be very hot. After your tour and lesson, we will enjoy a picnic lunch.  Then, you are free to explore the grounds and the gift shop on your own.  The grounds include the original well and dry cellar, as well as a nature trail and cemetary.…
