About the event

Travel back in time to the Carolina Backcountry and learn about life in the Colonies and the Revolution. Walnut Grove Plantation is the oldest home in Spartanburg County, built in 1765. On this trip, you will have a guided tour of the home and a fun living history activity.  Students will learn how to make butter and have a taste. This activity will work for most ages.  Younger students will need help because the churning is hard work.  Older students will learn a lot from this lesson. After your tour and lesson, we will enjoy a picnic lunch.  Then, you are free to explore the grounds and the gift shop on your own.  The grounds include the original well and dry cellar, as well as a nature trail and cemetary.

The cost of this trip is $5 for adults and $6 for students, plus site fee. 2 and under are free UNLESS participating in the living history activity.  Then, the cost is the same as for students.

Tickets will be non-refundable unless trip is canceled or rescheduled by the venue.  If you find you are unable to attend, you can transfer your tickets to someone else.  The trip will happen rain or shine, but if there are storms, the venue will likely reschedule.  In the event of rescheduling tickets will be refunded if new date doesn't work for you.

The house is old and spaces are small.  A carrier would be the easiest option for babies.  There are also lots of old things that are very tempting to touch.  If you think this will be too much for your child, you may want to wait until he or she is older for this trip.
