About the event
Kids Love Bamboo
This class will be devoted to teaching children about all things bamboo. Children naturally love the magic of bamboo. In this class they will have the opportunity to get to know bamboo as a natural and free resource for creating. We will provide various and sundry bamboo specimens for crafting. Kids will have the opportunity to make creations such as bamboo charcoal drawings, jewelry, small structures and characters and will walk away from class with their own bamboo walking stick. We will also give the children the opportunity to fill their own (provided) small bag full of bamboo pieces to take home and play with. This is a fluid class that can be tailored to whatever the children desire to do with bamboo. We can build something useful, craft, or just appreciate the beauty and natural usefulness of this precious resource.
Please Note: We will bring all tools, glues, twines, etc. necessary for numerous creations, but children and families are welcome to bring their own tools and crafting materials. All parents must remain on site during the class. No Drop-offs! Parents are responsible for the safety and behavior of their children at all times.
Additional Details: Shelter #1 has a wood-burning fireplace. Please do not allow your children to throw leaves or other un-natural materials into the fire. We will use this fire for the presentation. This shelter also has easy access to parking, restrooms and a playground area with a tire swing for younger siblings. Please keep an eye on your children at all times! We are not responsible for the safety and behavior of your children.
Cost: $20 per participating person plus site fee ($0.50) and Croft State Park Admission Fee (See the end of this event description). (If you plan to create with bamboo or take home bamboo to craft with, we ask that you pay for a ticket to this event.)
See the "Events" section for lists of other bamboo classes that will take place on the same day, at the same Croft State Park shelter! These classes include: "The Sound and Music of Bamboo", "Bambrooms" and "Bamboo Culture." Each class requires a separate ticket.
Additional Cost: Croft State Park is over 7000 acres and offers everything from a playground to hiking and biking trails. As a state park, there is an admission fee: $3 for adults over the age of 15, $1.50 for seniors, $1 for kids ages 6-15, and free for children age 5 and under. This admission fee is NOT included in your ticket price and must be paid separately upon entry into Croft State Park.
